Hey, it's starting to get normal in the anime world and morals for anime should be separated from real life.... after all, violence and random cruelty is wrong in real life (though the world seems to be changing and more accepting of incest than before).
Personally, I like pair better than Yuuji and Shouko..... I mean, all those rejections of her and all of the sudden... "I love you"..... I mean come on.....(though I guess I'm just more bothered by how it was handled than the couple itself I guess.... so much rejection to an "I always loved you" kinda felt like BS)....
Which is why I think Hideyoshi & Yuuko should have had more focus as a couple than Yuuji and Shouko.... plus Yuuko is the only one who sees Hideyoshi as a man (at most, other people will only give him his own gender.... but no one else will recognize him as a man but her).
Plus..... their relationship itself was one of the funniest in the series. 2nd only to Yoshi's relationships with women.
I try to find a HideyoshixYuuko fanfic in one of certain Japanese fanfiction websites, but surprisingly, there weren't as much as many as in the one of the English fanfiction websites. It is more surprising and funny that such Japanese website has more AkihisaxYuuko (71) than AkihisaxMinami (24) and AkihisaxMizuki (36) combined. Kind of surprising that the English fanfiction websites have more focus on AkihisaxMizuki, AkihisaxMinami and/or HideyoshixYuuko ones, while the said Japanese fanfiction website has more focus on AkihisaxYuuko. I'm just wondering though if this pairing (HideyoshixYuuko) is really that effective for one another. There might be some situations where this pairing is effective, but those situations will obviously not end up the two of them get romantically involved with one another.
Maybe its the fact that they don't think Aki X Yuuko will ever happen.... it was something strictly for the imagination... so they wouldn't want to ruin which ever pair the author picked in the end between Minami and Mizuki (though I'm assuming most of the fanfiction are from before the series finished.
Even then, it might just be a different culture thing too. For western fans, I noticed that we normally support female romance more than male romance. So a girls love towards a guy will have more support from the fan base than a guys love towards a girl. And mutual love usually gets the most support while in one sided love (for the guys) the girl that the guy has a crush on could get a lot of hate.
That is an interesting way to put it. Well done on your research.
There are other ways of viewing what you said, and I plan on covering those topics in support to what you have said. Our ideas may differ, but the end result wouldn't be much different.
The first thing up is how you mention the AkixYuuko ship. Despite the fandom cruising on this ship, it's a rather hard one to defend, mainly because the amount of time spent between Akihisa and Yuuko is simply not enough to make them a possible pairing. If their relationship progressed more, then maybe, but then Yuuko would have to majorly step up her game to become a heroine, and possibly taking the main role from Minami or Himeji. Since with the trend of the story making it improbable, we wouldn't really see this ship sailing the deep seas anytime soon, though I will respect those who boarded it.
Secondly, fan fictions. To sum them up, 99% of all the ones that actually follow the story in some way are before the ending for the novels.
I also noticed that different cultures normally think about certain subjects differently. It's certainly no surprise about that, but some people don't think it's much of a difference. Actually, it's so much of a difference that the wikia contributor above said that AkihisaxYuuko is more popular than AkihisaxMinami AND AkihisaxHimeji combine in Japan. So it's based more on the culture too.
Finally, I don't really get your last point Death. Could you explain it more please? Where you mention the one sided love vs mutual love thing?
Well, its just that I noticed in fandoms, if a girl has a one sided crush on a guy (MC) and is given enough significance that she's more than just a minor character, the fandom will generally show more support towards her (though I'm really over-generalizing this)
And if the MC (guy) has a one sided crush while another girl has a one sided crush on him (that isn't to off-turning), the girl will be the one that is more likely to get support.
On that note, if the guys love is mutual, then he usually gets more support than if it wasn't returned.
Now, there are probably other factors involved too (like fandom really liking that girl or not liking that other girl or ignorance) and this is just from my experiences and is just one guys story, but if you look at the fandom, I feel that a girls one sided love will get more support than a males love (one sided or mutual).
I think the main reason for the late progression of the pairing AkihisaxYuuko, aside from Volume 9 (there was a ship tease from both sides on that volume, but it never gets extended on the Volumes 10-12 honestly), is that Yuuko is more of an aspiring Dengeki Bunko female lead for the main character Akihisa, when compared to Minami and Mizuki, who are obviously Famitsu Bunko female leads for said MC (there was someone mentioned about this matter within the wiki, so I'll just try to put it here)
What do I mean is Yuuko, if she only gets on the spotlight, is at least comparable to SAO's Asuna Yuuki, Accel World's Kuroyukihime, SnS's Shana, etc. whereas, Minami and Mizuki are like SAO's Lisbeth, Accel World's Chiyuri Kurashima, SnS's Yoshida Kazumi, etc, in terms of characterization. That's what I thought.
How do those characterizations work? How is Yuuko more like Asuna while the other 2 are more like Lisbeth? The other 2 are more like heroines than Yuuko was. She's just the best friends girl position and the role model for the heroines, she gave them support like how Lisbeth gave Asuna support (minus the fact that they loved the same guy)....
Also, I do think that one website should be used for a wide scale representation. I mean, it was still just 71 stories & how many of them had the same author?
And Also, maybe it could mean that the Japanese fandom really wanted to wait to see who got together with Aki so they didn't want to ruin it. Or the fact that it would never happen had some sort of appeal. Or maybe it was the constant rejection Yuuji gave Yuuko that appealed to them. Or maybe the fans of that pair knew how unlikely it was and so wrote more fanfics for it to appease themselves.
I'm just saying that comparison was the characterization and personality, but not the role they get in the series, which kind of understandable since Baka to Test is a comedy series, and not some really VRMMORPG/sci-fi series we knew, and also the fact the series is focused on Akihisa and his adventures, including as the one involved in a love triangle with Mizuki and Minami (and not being with Yuuko), in general.
But... when I re-read the LN concerning this girl, I had noticed that she was actually left out in Volumes 3-8 (except 3.5 and 6.5), then returns in Volume 9, which is kind of somewhat questionable if this is really necessary for the author to do that, especially she is Hideyoshi's bro... sister? I guess even if Yuuko gets involved somewhere in Volumes 3, 6.5, and 7, nothing will change the course of the story for me. The S1 anime has even made her having a more prideful personality when compared in LN. I wonder if the author was doing that since he made Aki and Yuuko Class Ambassadors, just like Yuuji and Shouko (Class Representatives), Muttsulini and Aiko (Best in Health and P.E.), and Ironman and Ms. Takahashi (Homeroom Advisers), with the latter three getting paired with one another.
Back to the topic, are there any ideas for the HideyoshixYuuko? It would be believeable if they are not brother and sister pairing.
As far as I know of, there's really nothing that could support HideyoshixYuuko, mainly since the author doesn't let on incest as far as I'm concern, despite a few moments between Akihisa and Akira, but Akihisa isn't in that kind of stuff, and one very small moment with Hideyoshi and Yuuko in 9.5, but that wasn't really much.
You know how much Yuuji was rejecting her, refusing to date her, moving to another school so he wouldn't see her, avoiding her, not wanting her to be around, ect ect.
In the beggining, it seemed more one sided on Yuuko's part for a while. And then the "I just wanted to confess to you" kinda thing where he all ways loved her (I feel that is a cope out). I kinda wish that the author instead gave the rejection a bit more power and Yuuji did get together with another girl instead. Now, I was really only against it just cause how unhappy he was in her presence for most of the novels and not from being against the pairing itself.
Pretty much.... and I kinda felt it was a cope out to just make it that "he always loved her" and how he was being viewed as the bad guy for apparantly "not being clear" (not wanting her around and telling her to find someone else sounds pretty clear to me). I knew they would get together, but I just didn't like it.
Yeah, I could see your point on this, and it's a rather solid platform for you to stand on. Of course it's your opinion, and that's fine. Personally, I like YuujixShouko, but others, such as yourself, would differ. Hey, as long as we all get together, that's all I care about.
I have no idea why Hideyoshi Kinoshita would look like a girl I mean he in almost in every way girly. but if he has close friend why won't the understand. Yuuko's attitude is more manly than Hideyoshi. but my response to Hideyoshi is that: I thought sibling can't marry sibling and what? My suggestion is Hideyoshi x ?????. I rather have him single.
